In its 68 years of existence, most of Israel’s leaders came through the army. The way to the top was paved by a popularity earned in the military. Itzhak Rabin, Ariel Sharon, Ehud Barak, Moshe Dayan, are just few examples. It was an exclusive “man only” club, which women had no access to.
The following series of short interviews with Israeli female soldiers explains it all. These young women, who serve on the front line in different combat units, is a testimony to the major change that the Israeli society is going through. Israeli women are now serving in military occupations that until recently were off limit. It opens up new opportunities for them in a way that the Israeli society hasn’t seen before.
The invaluable leadership experience that they are getting in the army is likely to propel many of them to leadership positions in the Israeli society, among them are the future leaders of the State of Israel.
It is only a matter of time until the head of the Mossad, the head of the Israeli police, the army chief of staff, a future Israeli defense minister, and a future prime minister will be women who grew up in the Israeli defense forces.
